"Memories of Sierra"
A dufus puppy who lacked brains no doubt,
she'd just look at you if you started to shout.
She couldn't learn to sit or beg, and
if you said stay .. well she NEVER stayed.
She'd never do anything that she was told ..
and if a stranger came round, BOY was she bold.
Not with bites and growls and such
the problem with her was she LICKED too much.
She'd grab anything, a twig or a rock
(or if in the house she'd grab a sock!)
thinking it was her gift to you ..
a smile across your face is what it would do.
Happy go lucky and loving attention
oh and did I forget to mention?
She was clumsy and aofy, she'd always fall
Right away she would run if you did call.
Yet her senses were keen to smells and sound
Her nose in the air or on the ground.
She was the great hunter, this goofy dog
Home she would bring remains of deer or ground hog.
The battle scars she proudly wore
Knick of the ear, limping for sure.
She'd clumsily climb up the steps at night
To sleep in my closet til morning light.
She feared thunderstorms so very much so
she'd cower into corners, or into the tub she would go.
How horrid I think back to that fateful night
When a thunderstorm rose, lightening ever so bright.
She was tucked away safely in our family garage,
Yet the morning I prayed what I saw was just a mirage.
Heart wrenching pain for us did abound
when there lie Sierra, not making a sound.
Blood on every inch of the garage floor,
marks of her paw prints all over door.
Little did we know when at last she arose
It would be her last stand on this earth that she knows.
Now she's all healed, no more scars to bare,
romping playfully with her sister, Reba, everywhere.
She's with Diamond, Prince and Shane -- running on the ridge.
Someday we will meet her again.. On Rainbow Bridge.
Sierra
2/18/95 - 8/3/02
Sierra, daughter of Thor and Lady.
Born breach birth, second in a litter of 10.
She was a very special dog, lacking common sense and dog smarts,
yet she will always be remembered for her unconditional love
and her ability to always make us laugh AND cry.
